Certified Childbirth Education

Taking Independent, Evidence-based Childbirth Education classes was the FIRST solution to reduce the chances of having a cesarean birth, according to Theresa Morris, author of the 2013 book, Cut it Out: The C-Section Epidemic in America.

Having certified with not one, but two birth educator organizations, and regularly participating in continuing education programs, the instructor has taken the best aspects of multiple techniques and methods to create our Comprehensive Program. The result is an Independent Childbirth Education program that is evidence-based, up-to-date with current research and best practices, and provides parents with real skills for pregnancy, birthing and parenthood.

The classes offered by ChildbirthCT.com are just the thing to “stack the odds in your favor.” The programs offered through ChildbirthCT.com offer useful, practical techniques to stay healthy in pregnancy, to relax during birthing, and to become a confident parent with the transferable skills such as: researching and connecting to resources, positive communication and language, decision-making, problems solving, and more (skills that the Bradley method refers to as “consumerism”).

Partners learn effective support measures. Birthing parents gain confidence in themselves and the physiologic, natural process of birth. Through demonstrations, videos, activites, mini-lectures and practicing relaxation and Active Birthing techniques, you will add important tools to your “birth bag” each week.

Class space is limited to give couples the tailored attention that clients have enjoyed since the first course was offered in 2007.

Where are classes held?

Classes are held in several locations in the Greater Hartford and Greater New Haven areas, with my office based in Meriden, CT. Call today for information.

What programs are offered?

At the heart of all our programs are teaching expectant families the skills of consumerism, decision-making and self-advocacy. These skills serve as the foundation for empowered births – and empowered parenting!

Comprehensive Childbirth and Early Parenting Program

Comprehensive, evidence-based, family-centered series. Includes healthy pregnancy, birth plans and options, anatomy and physiology of pregnancy and birth, the unexpected, healthy pregnancy, techniques for the birthing room (relaxation, Active Birth, visualization, aromatherapy and more). We also explore additional issues, such as the influence of history and culture on birth, avoiding the “cascade of interventions” and preventing difficulties in birth, postpartum wellness and baby care, and new parenthood. The Comprehensive Childbirth Education and Early Parenting Program consists of 24 hours of instruction.

Condensed Program

For experienced parents who have already had a positive birth experience (or several), the Condensed Program provides a narrowly-focused review. This Program covers: healthy pregnancy, birth plans and options, anatomy and physiology of pregnancy and birth, the unexpected, and techniques for the birthing room (relaxation, Active Birth, visualization, aromatherapy and more). The Condensed Program consists of 12 hours of instruction.

A La Carte Program

Parents choose which classes they wish to attend! Fifteen distinct classes on a rotating basis. In-depth exploration of the topics mention above plus specialty classes on Homebirth, Hospital Birth, Sibling Prep, Self-Hypnosis for Labor and Birth, “Green” Baby Care, and more.

Hybrid Distance/Face-to-Face Program

Another option for families who live out of state, or otherwise can't make it to eight weeks of in-person classes but still want to participate in the Comprehensive Childbirth and Early Parenting Program. The same topics are covered, but in a format where some classes are held on-line and some are face-to-face.

Private Classes are also available.
